The Pleasure of writing
Among several university courses I have taken, it is my conviction that, if I wish to explore my ideas correctly, I must achieve success in commanding the English language. This was something that always interested me and, therefore, I enrol in all the courses I feel can contribute to that goal. Right now I have taken with positive grading marks: Principles of Written English from Berkeley University; English Grammar and Essay Writing from Berkeley University; Academic and Business Writing from Berkeley University; Introduction to Public Speaking from University of Washington, IELTS Academic Test Preparation from University of Queensland and, at the moment, I am enrolled in English Composition: Research and Writing from Arizona State University. This tendency for writing was recognised very early in my life. When I was very young, I used to write little stories and poems. However, in those days there were not enough options like today through like edX, especially if education was expensive and the political situation of the country would not have education as a top priority on its political agenda. I sometimes reread some of those old pieces of paper with my simple creations and I cannot help it but to smile. Very simple, no literary value at all but, at least it demonstrated that I would like to pursue that tendency had I have been given the chance. Much later, already an adult, I wrote a book with the narration of parts of my life together with my thoughts about politics, religion and the world. The publication, which sold some 1,000 copies, was a multimodal one. Today, when I look at it, I definitely think I could have done a much better job. But, we can always do better… It is not that a fact? Throughout this course I purpose to explore something that has always concerned me: Overpopulation, the need for altering the way we think in favour of a healthy Earth, which might not be enough due to the galloping technological development that the human mind is releasing. Finally my objective is to acquire a better command of the English language, while exploring important social themes. This has a double conclusion: Contribute to the opening of minds and continue writing for the pleasure it offers.
